ARTICHOKES FROM SICILY
Artichokes
They are an important source of precious mineral salts, among which we find:
- odium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, vitamin C, B1, B2
Leaves and juice contain the “cinarina”, an active ingredient that contributes to the elimination of toxins from the body and promotes the lowering of cholesterol and better arterial circulation. Artichokes are also rich of substances with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective action and they are recommended for diets because of their low calorie intake, low fat and high fiber content.
Our type of artichokes
Tema Artichoke
The taste of Tema artichoke is delicate and a little bitter. The shape of Artichokes (flower heads) is ellipsoidal-conical and weighs on average 150 grams. The External leaves (external bracts) are fleshy and tender with an intense violet color, elongated shape and a yellowish terminal thorn. The internal leaves (internal bracts) are yellow with purple hues.
The harvest period run from November to April.
Romanesco Artichoke
The taste of Romanesco artichoke is sweet and intense at the same time. The shape of Artichokes (flower heads)is sub-spherical flattened and it has large sizes. Their weight is on average 300 grams. Leaves (external bracts) are thick, fleshy and devoid of thorns, of an intense violet color with greenish shades, very tight and arranged so as to leave a recess in the center.
The harvest period runs from December to May.
